Awesome! Part lyric Polish folk tale, part Machiavellian power puzzle, part humorous romance, and many parts horror, this unique story channeled my imagination from page one. A young Slavic village girl with the clumsy yet beautiful name of Agnieszka, is chosen in an ancient rite to serve the old wizard lord for 10 years. While the old wizard is ancient and crotchety, surly, and a bit fussy, he's also perpetually young, rather handsome, and lonely.

This is the first book I sat down and read after an extremely lengthy book-hangover from reading A Court of Mist and Fury.

The first half of chapter one was intriguing, but the writing style started to bother me after a while. Uprooted is written in a very "tell versus show" sort of way and as such, I found it hard to connect to Agnieszka.

I am not usually a fan of books in this sort of genre, but this one was really good. The blurb on the back of the book told very little of the story, so between that and perhaps my limited exposure to books in this sort of genre, every aspect of the story surprised me. (view spoiler) ...more
