What Members Thought

For the first half of Pretty Girls, Karin Slaughter teases us with details of the lives of sisters Claire and Lydia. Their family was torn apart twenty years ago when their sister vanished under mysterious circumstances from the University of Georgia and now a recent, similar girl's disappearance unearths some old memories, feelings and resentments.
Both sisters hold pieces of the story -- and it's not until Claire's husband is killed in a random act of robbery on an Atlanta alley that the two ge ...more

Intriguing thriller.
Didn't love it but I liked it. Liked it enough to keep reading to see if my predictions were right. Yeah I've guess a bit of it as Claire was searching for clues I was coming up with my own theory and I found myself to be right 9 times out of 10. Interesting tale. Sisters grew apart over a boy. Their older sister disappearance caused a lot of depression with their father that ended in divorce with their parents.
Their past comes to haunt the sisters Claire and Lydia.

"He whispered in her ear. "Tell me you want this."
This is the first audio book to physically make me ill. About 2/3 of the way through the details were just too horrific and I had to switch to music and roll the window down to try to make the nausea pass. It's a very detailed, horrific book. But I think what makes me most sick is that it's so easy for it to be true.
I loved Claire and Lydia. They were two ends on the children spectrum - one quiet and witty, the other loud and brash. But they are ...more

I recently diacovered this author that is so disturbing but such an excellent writer. She uncovers every detail in layers with multiple viewpoints that everything is pictured vividly (disturbingly so) and every character comes to life.
I listened to this in audio (as well as The Good Daughter, which was read better), and I couldn’t stop. I’d find myself sitting in my car or doing extra chores just to hear more. Sometimes I’d have to stop and sit as a scene would take the wind out of me.

*Clutches pearls*The things in this book are....vile...disgusting...raw...graphic..and I enjoyed all of it. This author doesn't dance around things. She picks apart every detail to really make sure we not only visulalize the horror taking place, but actually feel it. I haven't read a sick book like this in a long time. The characters aren't exactly likable. But honestly I don't think they were ever supposed to be. I can't wait to pick up more from this author!
