This book was a solid three star book. Not great, but not bad. It was entertaining, but not spectacular. Fun, but not WOW.
It followed the YA dystopian formula like clockwork.
average teen heroine who finds out she's special? check.
love interest from her home town who she grew up with? check.
younger sister she needs to protect? check.
second love interest? check.
third love interest? different. (and disappointing).
bitchy rival? check. (and overdone)

Another book I'm surprised by why it took me so long to read. I have had this book for a long time and yet I never seem to pick it up. I like to form my own opinion on books a lot of people dislike and others love. Sometime the dislikes sway me as to how fast I am to pick up that book. I think that's what happened with this book. I loved it so much and I'm so excited for the rest of this series.

This was interesting enough but reminded me a bit too much of Steelheart. It's kind of a mix between a fantasy dystopia and Xmen, but mutations and special powers depending on blood color and type. I think a lot of teens would enjoy it; it's just after reading dozens of what seems like almost the same book again and again, it gets tiring. I think I'm okay not finishing the series.
