There was so much that was good about this book - I really enjoyed the world that the author built, and I just loved the subtle romantic element to the story. The idea of the 'abilities' which the Silvers had was just great and the overall comment on prejudice, difference and power was brilliant. About the only thing I can fault with the story was the timescale. I just couldn't believe that in the space of a single day, Mare went from a servant to being betrothed to a Prince.
