What Members Thought

I really enjoyed this story. The characters were all fantastic and their stories really resonated with me. I do think that there was much too much detail in some places which is why I ultimately gave it just 4 stars. I think there could have been some editing done to make it flow a bit more effectively. But, other than that, this was a fantastic story! I definitely recommend it!

I really enjoyed this novel told in a dual narrative. In the beginning, I preferred the narrative told from the slave's point of view. I loved her voice and how she showed her mistress in a sympathetic light.
Then there were letters from other historical perspectives and finally I warmed up the lawyer and her point of view.
Some of the chapters could have been broken up into smaller chunks. But I still really got into it. ...more
