I wanted to hate this book - I mean me, read about zombies? You've got to be kidding right? But Angel Crawford is an awesome heroine. She's got just the right mix of humour, self-deprecation, guts and feistiness. I found that I was compelled to read and find out what had happened to her, who had 'turned' her and how she was going to survive. I honestly loved it and I'll definitely read more of the series. I'm giving this book an iffy 3 stars. It wasn't a bad book - it just wasn't my cup of tea (or jar of brains).
I felt like this book wanted to be a more adult coming-of-age story, but wasn't. Angel's life is a mess - she can't keep a job, she's a drug addict, a felon, and a high school drop out. She's given a second chance complete with a good job and a means to survive - but it's all handed to her. By the end of the story I didn't believe that she had grown from the experience.
