A total joy to read. David Nicholls writes with intelligent confidence and a lightness of touch that makes the book difficult to put down. The two central characters are so well drawn that they are totally believable in their misadventures that one really cares for them despites all their flaws. The one day a year conceit is cleverly used and provides a window into their rollercoaster lives that will resonate with most twenty to forty somethings.

This was a real page turner, enjoyed it very much and would recommend to anyone wanting to read something they usually don't. I do tend to same with the same writers butb decided to give this ago, not because the film has been released (as i have no plans to go and watch it) but because of all the reviews the book has received which appeared to be very positive. Definately a must read

I enjoyed the format, read for bookgroup, would not have chosen myself. Liked the device of taking the same day (St. Swithan's day) each year - and loved the twist at the end.
