The story reminds me very much of my imagination and the games I would play as I would explore when I was a child. It seems to blend seamlessly between imagination and nightmare in a beautiful fantasy world where the reader is forced to question what is the protagonists reality and what is simply a childhood fantasy. If I had to liken it to other books I've read, I suppose Steven King's 'The Langoliers' and James Herbert's 'Once...' or 'Others' come to mind, albeit from a childhood perspective.
