The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien may have been origionally written with the target audience being that of children but regardless of whatever intentions it may have had Tolkien could not of predicted how this would change in so becoming a book that was and is still read and loved by not just children but teenagers and adults alike, becoming a universal publication that so many have enjoyed and delighted in. This is not a review, it is simply an endorsement. I'm re-reading "The Hobbit" (for the umpteenth time) for three reasons:
1) the movie (or the first half, anyway) will be out this Christmas, and I want the book fresh in my mind, and
2) I just purchased an e-reader and needed to start with something sacred (just like when Tolkien, upon first encountering a tape recorder, recited the Lord's Prayer into it ... in Gothic).
3) Needless to say, I believe this to be one of the best stories ever written a ...more

I love this book as much as I love Tolkien's other works. Although it wasn't meant to be, I wish it was much longer in order to fill in many of the tantalizing detail and history I've come to love in LOTR. Luckily, Tolkien wrote many histories, so my complaint is really moot. I love this story for its simplicity, images, and characters.
