What Members Thought
The date I read it is a bit fuzzy, but this was one of my favorite books as a kid. I remember loving the cartoon and getting a giant illustrated edition that I constantly flipped through. I think I just loved the idea of going on a grand adventure with a bunch of dwarves, finding treasure, defeating a dragon, and surviving a battle between five armies! What else could a young boy want in an adventure story? And that's all before I even aware of Sauron and the Rings and all that entailed.

The best prelude, to the best books in the world! Tolkien as always weaves a perfect tapestry of history, and drags his reader into a world made as real as our own.
originally read a handful of times back in 03, re-read since the movie was released. destroyed me all over again. love tolkien
