I loved Tolkien's Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, but I found this book very challenging. Christopher Tolkien has put together some poetic stories that his father worked on but never finished. "The Lay of the Children of Hurin" was difficult to read because of the often odd syntax. The "Lay of Leithian" was easier to follow because it was composed in rhyming couplets, and therefore flowed more smoothly. As a long time fan of everything Tolkien, sure I liked this book. The thing that is starting to bother me though is that I am reading the same story over and over which is a good thing and a bad thing. The good thing is that it is indeed interesting, the bad thing is that I relive the same dull moments every time again. So I rush the reading to interesting parts, and don't always pay attention to everything. Which is a shame, really. ...more
