As a German, I am still a pre-teen, and I had to read the last volume of the German edition of The Lord of the Rings as a pre-teen. I am not sensitive enough to the nuances of language to be able to comment on the interesting debate about this new translation, which excited many people's passions on both sides when the book came out in 2000. There is so much to absorb in books 5 and 6 of LoTR and once consumed the reader wants more, which is provided by way of the appendices.
I've come to find my favorite part of this volume is The Scouring of the Shire.
The whole of the LoTR is after all about the Hobbits and this single chapter not only shows the near completion of the character development of Merry, Pippin, Sam, and Frodo, but also of the Hobbits in general.

This book is so awesome! It's got to be the best book in the entire world! My parents said I couldn't read it for a whole year cuz' I read it so much, but the torture will end in march!
