Magical! I've read this story a few times already, but this is the first time I've listened to it.
We all know the story so I won't go into it here. I love the way Tolkien writes, lyrical, descriptive, the turn of a phrase. It was fun to hear the narrator sing all the songs included in the text.
My favorite parts were visiting the Shire and the Mines of Moira. My favorites characters were Strider/Aragorn and Gandalf. But of course I love them all and also all the settings, well, maybe except Mord ...more

I re-read these books every year and I've done this since the 6th grade when I discovered them. I absolutely love them.
Update from 2025: just got done listening to the audiobook narrated by Andy Serkis…AMAZING. Loved it so much. He is of course a great narrator with amazing energy in his reading! I definitely recommend this version of the audiobook! ...more
