A book about Rick, who, now in middle school, begins to realize that he's not interested in anyone and also realizes that his once best friend is both a bully and a nasty person. This is a book about growing up and starting to understand more of the world around you, whether you want to or not.

On the whole, given this is a book aimed at younger readers, it's a good example of how to approach the subject of asexuality and, though not much touched on, aromanticism, while also introducing concepts

Middle-school is such an important time, when a person is trying to figure out who they are. Add too, the incredible importance that peers play in a person's life. Rick by Alex Gino is especially valuable because, not only does it address the issues of gender and sexuality, but it also illustrates a protagonist having to cope with having a toxic "best friend." ”Rick” är en bok för mellanstadieålder som handlar om en kille som börjar i sexan och därmed en ny skola. Han lär känna lite nya vänner men känner sig hämmad av att hans bästis sedan många år faktiskt beter sig väldigt taskigt mot andra.
