I was stunned at how modern this book reads. Notes from the Mousehole (original title) makes you cringe and laugh simultaneously. I see the tragedy in this poor soul but I also see him as a sort of Costanza (Seinfeld) character who stupidly makes himself miserable again and again. Maybe it's my dark sense of humor and bleak outlook, but I truly loved this book. As an aside,it's easy to see how Woody Allen appropriated some of his schlemiel persona from Dostoyevsky. ...more
