People who read S.E. Jakes before and loved her will want to read this book and there is nothing more I have to say about it. So, this review is more for those who didn't particularly enjoy her Men of Honor series and have some reservations about this book because of that. I am one of those,so this is my take.

Uf, ok... I had this specific problem with S.E. Jakes heroes before:
Blurb says they are all military.
She writes nothing but military heroes.
And yet without blurb I would never tell they
People who read S.E. Jakes before and loved her will want to read this book and there is nothing more I have to say about it. Uf, ok... I had this specific problem with S.E. Jakes heroes before:
Blurb says they are all military.
She writes nothing but military heroes.
And yet without blurb I would never tell they are when I finish the book.
Seriously, sometimes they behaved in a way that can shame any YA book angsty teenager hero. That is considerably more apparent in her Men of Honor series,but I can understand that somewhat. That series is more erotic (I think action plot is in background, simply following relationship plot) and there is a lot more sex scenes.

In many ways this book reminded me of Cut & Run. Two difficult men, forced partnership, constant banter...you know,"I simultaneously want to kiss you and punch you in the face" kind of thing. Oh, yes, from the moment they "bastard" each other, I knew sex is going to be scorching hot. ;) I was familiar with Prophet from FF; he is a bamf, mysterious and irritating... The level of smartass & sass is even higher in CaG.He was the reason I bought CaG. I even called it in my head Prophet's book. Well, if you were afraid he is going to overshadow Tommy, fear not. I am now more interested in that pierced,inked, bad juju cajun. And that's my favorite thing about this book- I was invested in both of them. They are interesting characters, they will make you facepalm, smile and maybe yell at Prophet in your head...(seriously,I wish there is a cast for stubbornness*,'cause that man needs one).
The reason for star deduction was plot. It started interesting, but toward the end Prophet made some stupid moves(hence the yelling and cursing in my head.)(view spoiler).
The story ends with a cliffhanger. The mystery is resolved, but there are more questions opened. I'm really interested to know more about Prophet's past and Tom's work in FBI(view spoiler).And what's the deal with Spook? I'm on fence about him... He is always so..."conveniently" there.
Luckily, we don't have to wait for book #2 that long... And at the end I saw there were two more book planned in series...? That pleases me.

Okay, so my initial reaction to Catch a Ghost by SE Jakes was.. What the Fuck??? Yes that is exactly what I said to myself when I finished it. When I first finished the book, I would have given it about 2-3 stars. I was alternately confused and intrigued in equal measure throughout. After "sleeping on it" for a night I have changed my mind. I really enjoyed this book!

It has a similar-ish premise to Cut & Run (law enforcement, mess up guys w/ haunting pasts, clash upon meeting) but this relationship is everything I had hoped the C&R one would be. Tom & Prophet both have their pasts and their weaknesses, but they also both have their own strengths and something to contribute to the partnership. In the author's Men of Honour series Prophet had always really intrigued me, the shadowy fixer that sorted everyone else's problems but had no story of his own. Well at last we got that story - or at least part of it. Prophet and his new, uwanted, partner, Tom, a former FBI agent with a history of losing partners.
