Going into this book you need to know that it is a story that is going to play out over the course of 4(?) books. So yes, there is an up in the air ending for the MC's Prophet and Tom and I can appreciate the aggravation of some readers who were not aware of this going in.
And yes, if you have read Cut & Run this book started out with some similarities, two alpha males being partnered who don't want to be partnered, playing head games to test out the other and dishing out nicknames and snark, bu ...more

"Sexy Spy" is obviously my go to Genre and in this case it's double the fun! 2 Sexy MC Spies!
Phophet Prophet Prophet... oh how you frustrate me with your mysteriousness. Tom, T, Tommy, Cajun and Voodoo are names to describe his new partner at EE Ltd. Let the testosterone games begin! :D
Well written, perfectly paced, great banter, with action/some torture scenes, lots of mystery and then of course the sexual pull b/w the MCs. Yup, perfect! And that Cillian.....the sneaky spook next door! He is t ...more

DNF. Too much macho BS. There was nothing else to these guys. They spent a lot of time saying FU to each other because, you know, they're tough guys with a capitol T. Charming. I didn't like or care about either one of them. Did they like or care about each other? I don't know, couldn't tell. But I don't know why they would. And it felt like a lot of rehashing & little movement forward. I certainly didn't see much in the way of investigative skills from two supposedly highly trained ex-military

Excellent thriller/suspense story with complex characters and plot. I'm so glad I already have the second one to read right away.

Re-read (via audio book) 5/2/17: Hmm...well, I wasn't blown away by it like the first time I read it. SE Jakes' writing doesn't always work for me; it can be kind of choppy and hard to follow. I tried re-reading this last year and never got past 30%. I decided to give the audio a try instead and I did feel like it worked better for me as an audiobook, though I'm not sure it would have worked to listen if I wasn't familiar with the story because so much happens and the POV shifts a lot. I have some issues with this one, mostly about how certain things are drawn out, and a bit about the way that aspect is written. But there are reasons behind it all. Justifiable ones, which isn't always the case in some stories. I was in the mood for dark, hot, gritty and this delivers. Can hardly wait the five days until book two, even though my guess is that the new one will leave us in a similar place. This is a series after all. Evil. : )
