This is more a mystery/crime book with an underlying romance. I liked both MC's, Beck is a Denver cop recovering from a shooting that left him with a shoulder injury and PTSD and also resulted in the death of his partner and Zach, an FBI profiler who is also dealing with the aftermath of an attack he suffered while working a case, and thought they had good chemistry. Mostly this book was just meh for me. I didn't feel much of anything for the MCs, didn't really feel their romance either. There's a one-note evil baddie and we know who he is all along and we know it's just a matter of time before the cops figure it out and nab him. The police work alternates between tediously boring which I can believe, but don't want to read about, and just down right stupid, which I don't believe for a minute.

Power-hungry murderous villain left bloody trail on his way to win leadership of the state. Denver PD Homicide detective John "Beck" Stryker teamed with Minneapolis FBI Profiler Zachary Littman to solve the case. The mutual attractions from the past ignited amid the shooting, murder-frame, ex's bashing, drugs, nightmares, closeted ex, and demised partner's family.

I started the book with high hope but came away a bit disappointed. I expected a good mix of mystery and romance, however, the romance itself faltered about 60% into the story and eventually had a sort of "big misunderstanding" to create tension. The mystery was partly ruined by the multi-POV storytelling, everything was too clearly laid out, there's no mystery left. That is ok for some mysteries, because sometimes the "why" is more interesting, but in this case, the why is a rather convenient e
