What a fantastic book. I can't remember when I've read a book as gripping as Fadeout — I literally couldn't put it down. Hansen's brilliant voice mesmerized me completely.
This was my first Joseph Hansen book and I was totally blown away by his writing: The way he uses his words so economically and the smart, dry humor of his. He makes all his characters so unique, so alive and human, and creates the wonderful sense of place throughout the book. I enjoyed enormously the heart-wrenching, mature t ...more

I'm cheating, because I've read two thirds of the book, but I could have given the 5 stars much earlier.
I had to stop because it is too compelling and I was starting to jump forward.

I really enjoyed this book and the look it gave me into the 60's, when it was written. Dave Brandstetter is a very likeable character. There will be further books of this series in my future.
P.S.: I thought it was funny how much smoking and drinking was going on in the book. ;) ...more

This book is the first Joseph Hansen Brandstetter Series. I loved it from the get go. It has a very dark feel and yet the character's make it real. i HAVE READ IT IN THE BOOK, THE KINDLE EDITION AND THE AUDIO VERSION AND ALL THEM STILL APPEAL TO ME. HANSEN WAS ONE OF THE FIRST GAY MYSTERY WRITERS I EVER READ.

I'm not reading very fast, especially considering how much I am enjoying Fadeout. Digital is so much easier...
Well written mystery. Dave Brandstetter is a terrific character and I look forward to eleven more novels. ...more
