The best Josh Lanyon in a while--I so love his sentences--
"The snow was forming white mounds at the bottom of the foggy glass, like an ant farm winter wonderland."
"I didn't have another plan though, so I continued to stand there like a wind-up toy one spring short of a full key-turn."
"Darkness fell like a drop cloth."
God I love the way this man writes-so visual---WINTER(THE HAUNTED HEART,#1) is a great start to a new series--cannot wait for the next one ...more

Flynn Ambrose has inherited a lot of things from his uncle. A run-down house. A taciturn boarder. A basement full of junk, a living room full of antiques, and a bathroom gestating the next plague. Nothing a little bleach, care, and tactful avoidance can't fix. But Flynn can't help but think that his uncle could have done without leaving him that lovely mirror holding the ghost of one seriously pissed-off lady. Or at least left a note on how to go about exorcising her. Because running down the st ...more

This was a wonderful book--just the perfect balance of ghost story, mystery and burgeoning romance.
As the first of four linked novels, it sets up a fascinating dynamic between the two protagonists. In different ways, both men have been wounded and retreated-- literally and figuratively--into haunted existences. Loss, injustice and trauma all figure largely here, but somehow, despite of the somber themes, Josh Lanyon infuses the characters and the entire story with a sparkle and brilliance. This ...more

This is just such an enjoyable read. The story revolves around Flynn, an antiques dealer who has moved into his dead uncle's house to catalog his collection of weird, think Warehouse 13. You'll get the idea. There is one other resident of the house, Kirk, a playwright. Nobody does snarky, nerdy young guy meets gruff, sarcastic older guy was well as Mr. Lanyon.
I love these characters, never can get my fill. The story is a little horror. a little mystery with the appearance of a female ghost in ...more

For the spirit of Halloween that will be here in 2 weeks, I thought I'd review a jem that might be overlooked by more than it should be. First, a warning *THIS BOOK CONTAINS A SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TWO MEN* With that out of the way...
Flynn is a man without a will to live. The only reason he is at his uncle's museum/house is a promise to his parents. Kirk is man secluding himself to write and escape his PSTD. Neither is sure they want the other in their life, but throw in a haunted mirror.. ...more

I loved this so much that... I forgot a review ;-). What to say? It is Josh Lanyon at his best.
I really felt Flynn's loss. I loved the fact that he and Kirk didn't come together suddenly, and that Kirk also has some ''baggage''. The scary bits are really scary, but not in a flashy way. When the book was finished I couldn't imagine to wait for the sequel. ...more
