Really enjoyed this. Josh Lanyon says things so beautifully. But there was so much potential for this to be a full novel. Oh, Josh, I wish you had. I agree with many of the other reviewers that this was rushed in some places: the conclusion of the mystery (if you can say it was concluded), their relationship and its progression, the ending of the story and the big time gap. I usually stay away from stories like this influence by asian culture (I would much rather read yaoi novels) but I figured I would give this a chance since it was written by Josh Lanyon. I wasn't disappointed and this actually turned out better than I expected. I liked that there were references to anime and manga and also good basic usage of Japanese at play. I'm really not sure how to rate this book.
I did like it. NOT one of my favorites of Josh Lanyon's, but even the worst of Lanyon's is better than some books I've read.
I also really liked the last fourth of the book or so and I really liked the epilog. But I spent much of the first part of the book really not liking the characters or their actions.
It was an interesting attempt at something a bit different for the author, but I find I much prefer works like the Adrian English and the Holmes and M ...more
