This book is clearly intended for writers, but I think it is interesting to read for readers too, for whom it represents a sort of insider's guide to m/m fiction. The book was written in 2008, more than three years ago. It may sound a bit outdated in maybe a couple of chapters, since e-publishing wasn't so big back then, but it also holds warnings about the evolution of the genre that have come to be. Quite improved in my opinion from the first edition, and if you read that, you should definitely read this.
Like I said on my first review, a book like this for a reader is an interesting glimpse of the behind the scene process of writing, but it doesn't detract from the awe I feel when I read a good book. At last! I've found a writing book that gives specific advice for writing in the m/m genre!
This is packed full of sound writing advice, with plenty of examples from Lanyon's own work (along with a select few others), and fascinating quotes from writers, readers, reviewers and editors. You get a thorough overview of the genre, and there is useful advice about the business of writing and promoting as well as all the technical tips.
