I had the strangest feeling with this book. I kept thinking I was reading a Heidi Cullinan. Other than the similarities in style, I don't know how to interpret it. Maybe that I should be reading a book by Heidi Cullinan next? :)

Anyway. About this story.

The MCs were fairly likable. I didn't love them, but the chemistry between them worked fine after a certain point. The sex was hot and abundant. A bit on the porny side at first, but it didn't bother me. It was well done. There's dirty talk, too.

Of its time. Still mostly enjoyable, but some outdated aspects.

I really enjoyed this book. It was, in my opinion, a “beach read” that hit all the right notes. I laughed quite a bit & got a total kick out of Sam’s internal monologue and his desire to see his life in the context of a romance novel. I enjoyed the way the author played with the traditional romance tropes. I didn’t notice the amount of sex the first time through but after reading a few comments here I noticed it a lot in my re-read.

Funny and tender. Love the characters. Sam is adorable and funny. I laughed with the characters and cried with them also. Just a sweet, beautiful & funny story. I enjoyed the lesson in what not to say to your boy/girl friend so that they do not think you are breaking up with them. The translations were on target.

Wow. Okay so if you are looking for angst this is the book for you. Don't get me wrong, the story has a lot of humor, Sam's inner dialogue is quite clever and witty. However between Sam's insecurities and Ian's inability to be honest with himself with what he wants and needs the first half of this story has enough angst for 4 novels.

By the second half of the book the angst is mostly forgotten (or at least not so prevalent) and the story smoothly transitions into a sweet and funny romance. Sam is

This is a kinda sweet, kinda fun book that didn't quite work for me. Although I liked both MCs, I didn't buy them together as a couple. I liked Sam but I didn't find him attractive in a romantic sense and I didn't get what got Ian so hot. Its like getting turned on by a big goofy puppy. ...more

Dropped it halfway. Too much telling, very little showing. Sex was ok, though a bit over the top.
I was thinking 'Really?' and sighing far too much so I decided to just stop the torture.

Really cute book! Funny and the characters are very endearing. My only complaint is the price of the book. This costs more than I usually spend on these fairly short m/m romances.

★★★½

I enjoyed it, didn't love it. It's best to not take this book too seriously because this book doesn't even take itself seriously. Even the title gives that away. Has some funny parts. Has some emotional parts. Even a gay-bashing scene. Which as Sam would tell you is totally part of a romance novel trope meant to bring the MC back/closer together. It's tagged as BDSM, but it really isn't if that's a thing that would keep someone from reading it. There are some elements - Sam likes bossiness

I re-read this book many times and still love the characters! Sam's comparing his life to romance books still makes me laugh. I understand that Ian does not start out as the greatest boyfriend, but he makes up for it in spades.
