I really enjoyed reading this book. It's a little slow at the beginning, but after the first 30 pages the story starts getting complex and reeling in the reader. I really enjoyed Valentine Strange, he was an interesting character. A bit of an opportunistic cad, reckless and with the heart of a lion. I listened to a Josh Lanyon interview the other day, where she was talking about readers' expectations and how Strange Fortune doesn't fit what most readers have come to know/love about Lanyon's books. True, this is a fantasy adventure (another reviewer called it a 'gay Indiana Jones'), and while the romance is still in the mix, the plot is more action- than emotion-driven. A great read.

Compelling fantasy novel about two disparate people on a quest to save their world. More emotional than I was expecting and long enough to be world building.
