2nd Review - Re-read for the 2014 Pushing Boundaries Challenge

Okay, I'm on page 5 and have just finished meeting D for the first time. These first page were so descriptive that it took me a minute to realize that for the first time in many, many books, I wasn't just skimming through the words but actually taking the time to focus how the words fit together to create a picture. Okay, I'm on page 5 and have just finished meeting D for the first time. Not what color his eye are or how tall he is but what he was feeling down deep in his soul and how alone he was. I'm only on page 5 and already I love this book all over again.

The rest of the read went fast. I couldn't put it down... again. I love this couple. D is the tough guy and Jack is the victim at the start, but as the relationship evolves Jack becomes the strong nurturer and D becomes someone who needs to be cared for.

Again, this book is highly recommended. Still on my-6-star shelf.

1st Review - This book was recommended by fellows members of the M/M group. And so I figured I'd give it a try and I'm SOOOOooooo glad I did.

The characters in this story are fascinating, and even though they are in a very "unique" line of work, they seem very real and plausible. Jack Francisco, at first, comes across as the typical nice guy in a bad situation, but we soon seen the depth behind that nice guy facade.

D is the real gem. I think the thing that made me like him so much was that he was "Mr. Clean". Yes he tried to do some things right by his standards, but he in no way was a typical hitman. He took "jobs" against those he felt were not "innocent". As he said, so kids, no women, and NO witnesses!

The side characters... X and Churchill were wonderful foils, friends(?) and back-up to both D and Jack.

The actual read for this month is Shades of Gray, but this book kept coming up in comparison, so I thought I'd read both this month. So far... so GREAT!!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. This is one of my Six-Star-Favorites!!!

I'll be the first to admit that I have overly high expectations for this book based on the ratings and reviews on GR. I had a very hard time finishing this book--it took me days, which is very unusual for me. A few things kind of ruined this book for me. First, D's speech pattern is very irritating. He completely lacks the ability to articulate thoughts or words. He can barely do more that grunt.

First class action/adventure, I thought. The story takes it's time and is not without its twists and turns, but even so it remains taut. The main characters are complex and interesting enough, and grow enough, that I didn't find my interest in them flagging. So a good story, good characters, and bits of brilliant writing?
