Re-read, still found this an enjoyable diversion. Also currently watching a lot of The Professionals and seeing the gruff manner, occasional charm, the drinking and the strong connection that's spurred fanfic.

I love this book, it's not flawless but it is highly engaging. There's no plot in the sense of intrique, it's a gentle read of two characters bickering and squabbling affectionately through their ever after.

The first third of the book comes across as fast paced as it's nearly al

What a pleasure. Witty, funny and wry. It's the story of an acerbic former London policeman relocated to a rural England to write and his life with a horse-crazed Irish soldier. I have to say I love growly Robert. His character is just such a piece of work, he makes me laugh almost everytime he opens his mouth :) And to see him paired up with horse mad Michael. Sometimes I wonder how he deals, but they are both actually pretty well made for each other.

I disliked Agnes, all the way through the book practically, and then towards the end you really get to meet her and understand her a bit.

I loved the way life just rolls on in Larton, come hell or blizzard or tumbles on the
