Dash & Dingo: In Search of the Tasmanian Tiger by Catt Ford & Sean Kennedy – This book really plays into my secret fantasy where Indiana Jones decides he’s through with women and while traveling through Missouri, sweeps me up into one his adventures and I live happily ever after surrounded by antiquities and Harrison Ford. Took me a little while to get past the first few pages, but when I did, I was hooked! A really warm story, plus it made me think about an area of history I knew nothing about.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
Most of the historical romances I read seem to be set in 1800’s England, so when I saw that this book took place in 1930’s Australia – well, I hit the “buy” button pretty quickly. An added bonus was the cover. I love, love, love illustrated covers!

MAIN CHARACTERS:
Henry “Dash” Percival-Smythe: Henry starts out every bit as “stodgy” as the blurb describes him. He’s reserved and bookish and not a little bit stubborn, but he evolves during his adventures with Dingo. He’s very much FIRST IMPRESSIONS:

MAIN CHARACTERS:
Henry “Dash” Percival-Smythe: Henry starts out every bit as “stodgy” as the blurb describes him. He’s reserved and bookish and not a little bit stubborn, but he evolves during his adventures with Dingo. He’s very much out of his element and must adapt to new surroundings and situations. Away from his home and the influence of his family and peers, Henry finds the freedom to let go of his reserve.

Jack “Dingo” Chambers: Dingo is the exact opposite of Henry. Where Henry is reserved, Dingo is spontaneous. He often says and does things on impulse, he’s fun, flirtatious, and a great distraction for Henry. I’ve read a few recent reviews that have said that Dingo is a bit of an Aussie stereotype, but, while that may be true, he’s still quite a lovable character for me.

NEGATIVES:
I wasn’t sure about the resolution in regards to the “villain” of the story. He is a presence felt throughout and I was kept on my toes wondering why he was so dogged in his pursuit of the boys – Dingo in particular – but when all was revealed, I admit to being a little disappointed in the explanation given for it. I felt it was a little too simplistic for such an intense character. That is really the only negative thing I can think of and it’s something I can easily overlook when compared to how much I actually enjoyed the story.

POSITIVES:
Most of the book is told from Henry’s point-of-view, but we do get a few glimpses into Dingo’s head as the story progresses. I thought the sparing use of Dingo’s POV was quite smart, as it furthered the story, but didn’t detract from what we experience along with Henry – his excitement for their adventure, his attraction to Dingo, and his determination to preserve the tiger. I loved Henry and Dingo’s characterization, the historical and geographical details, and Dingo’s relationship with his family – in particular, how it contrasts with Henry’s own family relationships.

LAST IMPRESSIONS:
The book seemed quite open-ended, leading me to believe there may be a sequel in the future. If so, I look forward reading more of Dash and Dingo’s adventures! I’d recommend this to anyone who likes romantic adventures set in interesting places.
