Dear J.X.,
These three stars are for you. You're wasted on that overgrown man-child. Leave him and come to me, my love!
With love,
Your future husband

Seriously though. I recently listened to the first two books in the series in audiobook format, and I really enjoyed them. It seems to me that the 4 year gap between when the previous book, All She Wrote, was published and 'The Boy with the Painful Tattoo' really effected the way Josh Lanyon wrote Kit. I'm devastated I've finished reading this, but I stretched it out as long as I could.
What I really like about Lanyon's characters is that they're not perfect. They're very real, deep, funny. Kit is, at times, an irritating, neurotic pain in the arse, but he's also quick-witted and devoted. J.X. is a contradiction - gentle, brave, passionate, adoring, heroic - there are times when I want to lamp him with a blunt object, others where I wish he was mine. That would be the immersive reading experien ...more

I think this was my favorite of the whole series not to say the books before it weren't my favorite too. Kit and J.X. have just moved into their new home. J.X. is off to a writer's convention and Kit has decided to remain home under the guise of unpacking and settling the house. Needless to say while unpacking he finds a dead body among his material items. Being who he is. Kit finds himself immersing himself in a mystery and putting his life in danger.

It was great! I loved being inside Kit's head as he was finally honest with himself about how he feels about JX. And there was everything else that make Lanyon's books too good to be true: sarcasm, mystery, witty dialog, hot hot hot sex, (view spoiler) , insecurities, humor and well you know THE HOT SEX!
