I won't lie; I bitched something rotten about how poor this book was when I first started reading it, and not because of the poorness of the stories, although I was expecting more in the way of literary fiction, as my only experience of Carina Press was Larry Benjamin's What Binds Us.

Mistletoe at Midnight I love stories where first loves come back together and rekindle their past passion for each other so this one I found sweet.

Nine Lights Over Edinburgh A bit of a slow read and takes some patience...well it was for me anyway. (view spoiler). There's not much romance but it was still nice.

Mistletoe at Midnight By LB Gregg
Not a fan. Owen's Mom was an unbearable busybody, the two MC's were boring and had no real connection (in my opinion), and I thought Caleb really brushed over the fact that he totally disappeared 10 years ago with no word. Just felt annoyed and frustrated. 2 stars

Nine Lights Over Edinburgh By Harper Fox
Again, not a huge fan. It starts with (view spoiler) but starting the novella like that felt so insanely unrealistic, that I couldn't get into the rest of the fic. Toby was pretty hot though, and I did like him and McBride together, but it really did feel too rushed. I think the author tried to accomplish too much in too little time. 2 stars

I Heard Him Exclaim By Z.A. Maxfield
This was my favorite of the stories. I'm not normally a huge fan of kid-centric stories, but I thought this one was fabulous and had a lot of depth. The premise sounded kind of hokey, and I wasn't expecting to enjoy it much, but I really loved it. The characters were great, and the connection between the two MC's was wonderful. Super hot and wonderfully sweet. This is exactly how I like my Christmas short stories! 4 stars

Icecapade by Josh Lanyon
This was my second favorite. I thought the characters were both really interesting, and I liked the contrast of the FBI agent and the jewel thief. But I really had a hard time understanding what Robert would get out of the relationship by going back to Noel. Noel is a former jewel thief, who screwed him over 10 years ago (quite literally), and then proceeds to write books that end up sabotaging Robert's career, and pretty much make him a laughingstock. I just didn't get the appeal there, especially because it had been 10 years since they'd spoken. Good writing, and I actually did like both of the characters, but since we didn't see Robert's POV and I thought he was the majorly wronged party, I had a hard time understanding why he'd want to try things with Noel, which prevented me from loving this. 3 stars ...more
