This review will begin with this line: "In Vio I Should Trust"
Without her review, I would give this a pass. Simply because Harper Fox's writing makes me exhausted. But this one I really enjoyed. Vio told me that this felt more like Harper Fox's short stories -- and I think I'm good with her writing in small dosage, seeing that I seem to love her short stories better. So yep, this one, I apparently enjoyed as well.

Nicely spooky and like much of Fox's writing, very evocative and rich with its setting, so you can feel the mist on the moors and the chill in the air.
I steered away from this because I'm rarely into novellas. (It's hard for me to get excited about stories less than a 100 pages.) But I saw that Fox has continued this series, now at 4 stories, and that convinced my novella-leery mind to dive in, since there's more to clutch at later if I like it.

Color me surprised, but I really liked this book!
The dark tone that failed to please me in Nine Lights Over Edinburgh, my first read by Ms. Fox, was present in this story again - but either it was lighter or my mood was darker now than then. The thing is, it worked this time and I'm definitely going to give Ms. Fox's books another try. ...more

A winner, as all of Harper Fox's books are. Interesting setting told with great atmosphere. Two amazing men, Gideon and Lee, and a good, gripping mystery on top of it all.

I enjoyed this tale, especially as it is set in Cornwall. I do love that area of my country.
Gideon is a local policeman faced with a missing child case, which understandably, he is not handling well until Lee, a psychic, joins the hunt.
I liked that both men were equals in their fledgling relationship, strong and good at what they do. They make a believable couple that I would like to read more about.

I really liked the main characters and the way their relationship developed. It was fast, but you could see them connecting and how much they helped each other. I also really liked the mystery and didn't see the culprit coming. Can't wait to read the next in the series.
