"Fair. Where did this idea come from that everthing was supposed to be fair? What about life was inherently fair? Was it fair that bombs fell on noncombatants? Was it fair that some people were born rich and some people were born poor? That beauty wasn't matched to goodness?"

Not sure how many times I can say I love Josh Lanyon's writing. I love his sentences--love his mysteries--I thought I knew who the killer was--then that suspect ends up dead--my next suspect was the killer--I liked Elliot an

"Those who can, do; those who can't, teach."

This is true for Elliot Mills. Elliot was in the FBI, but a crippling wound to his knee has him out of the agency and into teaching history in college. Elliot thinks he has his life in order, but a request from his father's best friend, asking him to look into the disappearance of his son, has him doubting his choices. Reluctantly, Elliot agrees to look into it, since the young man is a student at the same college. Elliot quickly becomes aware of how

So. Good. I'm a full-on converted Josh Lanyon fanfirl. It's official. This book was great. Super slow relationship build, but man, when they make it work? *happy sighs*

There was a mystery. It was well done. I don't always love the mystery aspects, and I guess the endings too often. I had many suspects til the end. It was fun and also tragically sad.

I had one tiny quibble with the end. (view spoiler)

I read this book a while ago and when I discovered audiobooks, I added it to my list. I finished listening to the audio version on September 01, 2015.
I think I enjoyed it even more in audio than I did when I read it the first time. The narrator, Sawyer Allerde, does a wonderful job of portraying the characters and I enjoyed the voices he gave them.

The characters are intriguing and the story is filled with mystery and suspense. The romance between the main characters flowed perfectly and I foun

4,5, rounded up for good measure.
A masterful, multilayered mystery, two likeable heroes and this author's true-to-life, witty dialogue.
Small niggles: at times too lenghthy descriptions of minor locales while more important places were only sketched and hard to picture.
And I didn't get what exactly had caused the rift between Tucker and Elliot in the first place - mutual stubbornness? Male pride? Elliot's state of shock? Might have been only me though.
Overall, it's a totally enojoyable story

So many friends have already given this book such fabulous glowing reviews, therefore my lazy ass is just going to jot down a few things and move on to my next book. (don't judge) :))

Ok, I admit it, I was wrong. I was SO wrong! Three times I thought I knew who it was, three times I felt like an idiot! And for some reason I assumed the killer and the stalker were two completely different people. Marissa, you dummy! But who am I kidding, I think I fingered almost every character as the ba

Lanyon's books are tightly plotted, subtle, elegant, and deeper than they seem at first glance. Sensitive portrayal of man's investigation of a crime, and his off/on relationship with an FBI agent. ...more

This book has everything I like.
A university setting, suspense and mystery, very good characters and m/m romance.

I've read several of Josh Lanyon's books and have never been disappointed.
