It’s been 9 years since I read the White Hell books and about 5 years since I read the Scarlet Wolf books. And I have a terrible memory. So aside from a few key people I wasn’t sure exactly which characters and how much of their backstories we were meant to know already. It would’ve been a good idea to do some rereading but that’s not my habit so I muddled through.

This first book mostly lays out the players and factions for the conflict that’s brewing. It didn’t keep me quite as completely engro

It seems with each new installment we get more characters and more world building as the plot expands. Even though these are three duologies with separate stories, everything is interconnected. Parts of this story reflect back to the first two books, for example. It’s crucial to read these in order.

This book also has side characters who are trans and lesbian and one of the main characters is bisexual.

Ginn Hale is an excellent writer and it is a delight each time she publishes a new book.
I warmly recommend all all her works.

For this one see Alison's review: she said it all, as enthusiastically as I would say it ;-).

I’m certainly at a disadvantage for having not read any (books) of the Lord of the White Hell universe, either the “Lord of the White Hell” or “Champion of the Scarlet Wolf.” So if there are any unfortunate schmucks out there about to do the same as me: DON’T! Stop and look up “Lord of the White Hell” books and go from there chronologically! 😅

Foolish move aside, I’m not unfamiliar with Ginn Hale’s books - having read a few - and always found myself entertained by the books I read. This one is no

It's a delight to sink into a Ginn Hale story every single time. Complex, nuanced, and detailed enough to make the world and characters breathe without being overwhelmed by unnecessary minutia, and always lifted by by her lyrical prowess. This woman knows how to craft a fine tale. I love that I always have to work a bit to piece the world together as the plots unfold.
I'm absolutely looking forward to finally sitting down to Lord of the White Hell after putting it off for so many years.
There's a
