I enjoyed this, it was an easy read. Lots of characters and pov shifts between them meaning there's quite a bit of telling and we're sometimes given a biased view.

Mathew the main detective is gay which is introduced nicely and is drama free. While his husband is referred to and appears in the story he did come across a bit like an eager puppy, appearing for fuss then disappearing again rather than rounded development. Vera is one of my favorite British tv mysteries and I’ve watched some seasons of Shetland but I’ve never read any of Cleeve’s books before now.

I started just wanting to finish it before the BritBox series aired but the more I read the more I was pulled into the story.

I get impatient though. As the case moves I want to be in that moment chasing leads and I don’t care about the personal lives of the detectives.

I say that but I do want more focus on Matthew and Jonathan. I know this isn’t a roma
