I am going to leave this one unrated.
Because as much as I enjoyed the case that Jason was working on (and I totally got new knowledge about the whole "piracy" old movies of collectors" part)...
I HATED HOW THE BOOK ENDED 😫.
The conclusion of the case was unsatisfying (I still wonder about the MOTIVATION and we didn't really get a confession or full explanation)... and then there were that final line. It feels like a bait to wait for another uncertainty of release date of the next book.

Although supposedly longer than book 4, this felt short. It’s a bit of a placeholder without major developments, though a few tidbits are queued up for the next installment. Nevertheless enjoyable and I liked learning about movie preservation & collecting. Rounding up because I love spending time with these characters.

This installment likely describing West’s work load; case on top of one another. Remember that one disturbed villain who still obsessed over him? Still in the wind. Not to mentioned other case (with possible suspect (of murders) still at large) might also involved in the puzzle of West’s latest case. Last but not least, the active case he went undercover - imho - got to be the most unexcited of the series so far. Oh sure, there’s (one of) Lanyon’s noir ...more

As usual, Josh leads us on an exciting adventure threading relationship and dead bodies. I love the Art of Murder books!

Not the best book in the series. Slow going and no real developments or mystery. Also has a major left unfinished feel.
