So happy to share the latest adventure with Ellery, Jack, and Watson. ;-) The entire kooky cast of Pirate's Cove will return in May 2022. ...more

Ellery Page - the dead body magnet -- can't believe that he stumbles into another crime scene when doing diving with his boyfriend, Chief Police Officer Jack Carson, around Buccaneer's Bay. And while on land, he is hired (as an amateur sleuth) by Odette Wallace to find out who is trying to kill her.

I think this series still hasn't reached its full potential. I'm a little confused with the focus, is the 'dead body in the sea' the main case or is the one with Mrs. Wallace? ((view spoiler)

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a chance to read this story for an honest review.

I really love this series. I love Ellery, Jack, Watson, and even Nora. Being the fifth book in this series, the relationships are more settled, and even though Ellery finds a body again, he isn’t looking to dive in (ha) to figuring out the mystery. What I love about this installment is the developing relationship between Jack and Ellery; the ups and down in getting the relationship working. Even with sole POV I could sense Jack’s position, his stake in it - and it’s good to know Ellery’s not the only one invested and felt insecure every now and then.

As for the mysteries themselves - I’m not fully sold on them. Not getting the spotlight enough imho and the conclusion was too in passing to my liking.

Loved it, although a lot was too easily solved or glossed over
