I love writing this world so much. I love the characters, both minor and major. I love the history of my made-up island. I love the village of Pirate's Cove right down to the smallest piece of weathered architecture. I love the fact that I'm starting Book 4 now. :-) ...more

I think this series still hasn't yet its full potential.

On the mystery front, Ellery is a reluctant amateur sleuth. He doesn't really embraced sleuthing, and it's a bit of a downer for me when the character in a cozy mystery series is not that enthusiastic as the reader. Although he still gets "result". Then there's that "side-romance" between Ellery and Chief Jack Carson. I'm just going to say... Jack needs to make up his mind. Period.

Watson, Ellery's puppy, is the sunshine of the book. I love

Oh. Ellery. Ellery. Oblivious Ellery...

The third installment to Lanyon’s “Secrets and Scrabble” series was filled with upbeat vibes despite the limbo of Ellery’s not-relationship with Police Chief Jack Carson. It was pretty clear - even when they stamped theirs as friendship - that Jack still harboured feelings for Ellery. Especially when he was faced with some sort of competition for Ellery’s affection. Which was what that first line was all about.

While presenting two different kind of crimes,

This is a delightful series of mystery novellas, just (and sometimes more than) a bit scary at times, a quirky ensemble cast with new additions in each episode, an adorable puppy, and a dash (or more) of romance. I love that Ellery isn't a stereotypical full-of-himself actor, rather he's surprised by some of the attention he receives... both the positive and not. And I love that he finally stood up to (view spoiler) in this one. There are some on-going jokes, like how funny ...more

This is the third book in this series and they just keep getting better. Richly populated with a vast variety of side characters, Pirate's Cove comes to life under the pen of Josh Lanyon. In this one Ellery is invited to the Marauder's Masquerade, the even of the season. While there he meets the son of hostess, Julian, he finds himself entranced and sure enough a murder follows during the annual ghost hunt.

I am really enjoying these series. The stories are amazing and brings in all the idiosync

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

I'm really loving this cozy mystery series. In this installment, Ellery doesn't want to play amateur sleuth, but gets pulled into it by reluctant promises and his natural nosiness. I like the small town quirky setting as well as the events like the ghost hunt after the masquerade ball. A few new people were introduced, but I like how the old ones were included too like his Scrabble/boardgame group and
