I’ve had this on my files for years now but never paid any attention to it until it was picked up for a film adaptation. So last night, I finally finished reading it – a good 15 days before the movie hit the theaters locally.

I think this would have made an excellent short story, and I would have enjoyed it a lot more. It’s a beautiful story, but reading the inner monologue of a teenage boy in confused love with a young man for the first time for an entire novel gets a little tiring. Also, the ending was terrible.

I bought Call Me by Your Name in 2009, and I read it only last year, I didn't want to see the film before having read the book. I kept postponing reading it, because I thought that it would be a tragically sad story. In fact it is sad only right in the end, in my opinion. But it is intense. In the meantime I've seen the film several times. It is different from the book, especially in the ending.
