This series is fast becoming one of my very favorite series ever. It has everything a reader can hope for: twisting plot, intriguing characters, witty dialog, beautiful writing, vivid details, emotions from hurt and heartache to hope and satisfaction. And then, of course, there's the fact that it's all seen through the eyes of an art lover, Jason West. What more can a gal ask?

A tightly paced, emotionally wrenching thriller.
'The Monet Murders' (which picks up eight months after the events of 'The Mermaid Murders') begins with FBI Special Agent Jason West wondering about the status of his 'in limbo' relationship with BAU Chief Sam Kennedy.
It turns out the news on the relationship front isn't great, which has the effect of punching you (the reader) squarely in the gut and then not giving you time to catch your breath because the mystery immediately ramps up into high g ...more

FBI Special Agent Jason West of the Art Crimes Team has enjoyed all the late night sexy conversations with Sam Kennedy, Behavioral Analysis Unit Chief. But when Sam calls Jon in to help with a crime, Jason receives mixed signals from Sam. Their job comes first and someone is murdering wealthy art collectors, leaving behind a poor rendition of Monet depicting the scene of the crime. While Sam may have called him in to help professionally, he has made it clear that personally, there is nothing. Ja

Both the mystery and the romance here are Lanyon gold standard. This series has suddenly became my most eagerly anticipated series from Lanyon's current works.
For some reason, the first installment, The Mermaid Murders, was better in 2nd read, maybe with more knowledge of the Sam Kennedy character, I looked at the story differently. I do recommend a re-read of first book before this excellent 2nd!

Okay, now that I've read the entire thing with the missing 4 chapters, it jumps from a 3 to a 5. The real end was substantially better than the abrupt ending that left me hanging and cursing the author's name when I saw the next in the series wasn't out for another year or so. This wrapped things up nicely with room for the next book. I like the two main characters. I did not find Jason whiney as I've seen a few people call him but rather acting like a real person who's boyfriend is being a jerk

*sigh* This book is a perfect Josh Lanyon book. Contains all the magics that make books like these an unforgettable read ^_^
This second book in The Art of Murder series is a huge improvement from the previous one. We got to see a lot more intense chemistry and got to know the characters a little more, although Agent Sam Kennedy is still a mystery to me. Hope his side will be revealed well in the next book, for which am waiting eagerly.

Great sequel, again from the POV of Jason West. It is less concluded in itself than the first book. Jason and Sam retain their complexity. Unluckily Sam is not that much present in this book, or maybe luckily because I could have killed him (lack of communication). The descriptions are masterful, for example all the creepiness of the island appears very clearly, and it is apt that from Jason's POV the visual aspect is important. Warnings: angst and murders.

Finally!!
I've (im)patiently waited for the sequel to Mermaid Mysteries and its finally here! I was kind of surprised how much I fell in love with Jason and Sam and their mystery solving ways in the first book, and The Monet Murders don't disappoint on either front. To me, there was just the right amount of mystery and romance, as with most Lanyon books. The mystery and the "vibe" may not be as "perfect" as in Mermaid Mysteries, but it's really, really good.
