It renders perfectly the historical atmosphere after World War Two, for people who went to war and people who didn't. There is much more mystery (in fact locked-room mystery) than romance. I liked the enemy-to-lovers thing between Felix and Leonard, which wasn't out of the blue: they just had never let themselves to consider the fondness they had for each other. I hope they will go together to the Valley of the Kings ;-). I was first thrilled and then saddened because of (view spoiler) ...more

At the risk of being lynched by my Lanyon loving friends, this one, well, didn't do it for me :( The voices of the two main character sounded the same, meaning I had trouble following who was telling the story as it switched pov. The mystery this time round, well didn't grab me by the arm and shake me as it has in previous Lanyon stories. If I am honest I struggled to get through, I should have been able to read this in one afternoon, took me several.
