I'm still bathing in the pleasurable afterglow of this perfect reading experience. Hands down, here's one of the best authors I've ever read — in any genre. It's absolutely stunning that this is Dal Maclean’s debut novel. I fell head over heels in love with her voice. Such solid, beautiful writing! I highlighted A LOT while reading Bitter Legacy — it felt like finding all these deligtful treasures and marking them for future visits.

The POV is brilliantly written, as are all the flawed, intriguin I'm still bathing in the pleasurable afterglow of this perfect reading experience. The POV is brilliantly written, as are all the flawed, intriguing, detailed characters. Before I knew it I was fully invested in the main character, James — his struggles and heartache becoming my own quite literally. And then there’s Ben, who is such a complex character. And he isn’t exactly easy to love! After Ben had put James (and me!) through a mangel — several times — it was his vulnerability that did the trick for me. Of all his traits, that — and seeing his defense mechanisms for what they were — were the fact that finally made it possible for me to understand Ben and his actions. What a psychological adventure this story was!

The story has surprising twists and turns, agonizing, raw emotions, brilliantly crafted sentences and scenes. All extremely vivid and real feeling. Reading this book was not only a bumpy road for one’s emotions, but more like taking a hike in an extremely arduous terrain with the worst kind of heartache. Oh the sweet achony! Also, it was all so carefully pictured that reading it felt like watching a movie — or that I was actually stepping into the scenes with James.

It was SO DIFFICULT to put this book down. I only remember two other reading experiences when I felt physical, absolute NEED to abandon all the other fields of my everyday life and just continue reading. Those other two equally wonderful, intense reading experiences were Josh Lanyon’s Adrien English series and Ginn Hale's The Rifter series. Oh yeah, THAT'S how good Bitter Legacy is!

Great writing, great mystery with twist and turns and red herrings, great setting in London. I had some issues though: convenient coincidences, the almost parodistic depiction of people believing in penal reform and second chances which I cannot help to connect with the fact that in the end (view spoiler), repeated descriptions of how beautiful everybody is, the (view spoiler) ...more

Oh Wow, Just Wow!

An incredible journey is the only way I can describe tis book. Great characters, great plot, all tied together in a nail biting , page turner. I can not say enough good things about this book!

Wow. What a ride this book was. I absolutely loved it. Loved the chemistry between Ben & Jamie, even though Ben himself tried to deny that chemistry but it was so obvious. The suspense was good, good romance, good main characters & side characters as well. So this was a book definitely worthy of my time. I am actually hoping for a sequel ^^

Both the romance and the mystery were well plotted and well written. It's a big book, but never a dull moment. My heart ached, raced as I joined James #hotcop for a exhilarating ride.

Wow..., I'm extremely satisfied with the ending of Bitter Legacy.
James and Ben romance was rocky and hard on James. Ben was an ass, but than everyone could understand why he behaved as he did. Even if most of us couldn't accept Ben's open relationship, James did just that. Decided to be part of his life and see where it goes.
I love their HEA, still, personally, James took Ben back way to fast. Some celibacy for Ben wouldn't hurt. The criminal case was extremely well developed and written. Great ...more
