Such a clever story! It's about two guys Brandon and Abel who run a blog about a popular TV show, Castaway Planet. The show has also spawned lots of fanfiction of the slashy kind about the two leading characters, the heroic Captain Cadmus and his sidekick the lifelike (but seemingly emotionless) android Sim.
The story takes place as Brandon and Abel set out on a forbidden road trip (with Brandon's girl BFF, Becca) to attend all the Cons at which the cast of Castaway Planet are appearing. Both gu ...more

O.K., this book must, MUST have a sequel.
It's funny, geeky, smart, heartwarming, painful, sweet... like, legit gem, for reals, lol (I just had to, I had to...).
It took me a while to get into the story, maybe because I started substituting Castaway with Star Trek characters, maybe because I'm coming from atheist family and cannot completely empathize with Brandon's problems, maybe due to Brandon's panicky voice in the beginning. 3.5 stars
While I enjoyed this novel, I am, perhaps going against popular opinion by saying that I didn't love it the way so many others have done.
While the plot device is certainly clever, I found the characters a little two dimensional and predictable. In particular, I ended up hardly caring about Abel, whose childish, self-centered responses made me want to thump him at times, his maturity showing too little and too late. Brandon was a little more fleshed out, and having been raised in a Catho ...more

4.5
I gave it 4.5 = 4 stars in December 2012. Now I reread it and I leave the 4.5, but I upround it to 5 stars. What matters is my enjoyment of the book, and not the tiny niggles (too neat ending for ex.).
Well written, full of humour. Great depiction of: Catholic guilt (believe me, I'm an expert), internet fandoms and communities. The fact that the MCs love their plastic action figures is perfectly normal, because they are part of the fandom. Connected to this is also the feeling of belonging whe ...more
