I really liked this book. It tickled me in all sorts of ways.

It is very British, set in a village in middle England. I could just feel the countryside and country life as I read it.

It is set in a school, a village school with all it's characters and staff and board of Governors. Just the feel of 'committee' and 'governance' made me smile because 'committees' and 'governance' have been a major part of my career. (Alas) Ok so that's a bit boring but watching people on committees is interesting, es

Found this hard going, it's a very droll murder mystery without much life to it. Figured out who did it fairly early, then waited while the police plodded around each witness ignoring some obvious lines to investigate. Kept waiting for that ineffable something that never came.

From the start it read like a screenplay, Miss Marple without the charm or wily detecting. Serious issues are brought up such as child abuse where the concern is parents withdrawing their children, never the children themse

Lois - Who Reads
This book is the definition of a cozy English mystery. Bodies are dropping everywhere and in this small town where everyone is connected in several ways there are motives everywhere. Adam and Robin have an instant attraction, but know that they can't act on their attraction while the case is still being investigated.

When my first suspect was the second murder victim I was thrown for a loop. For the rest of the book I just suspect jumped, but could not land on one person that I was sure was the

Lisa ~ Books Are My Drugs ~
This is a mystery with gay characters who edge around the beginning of a relationship but don't actually do more than flirt & kiss due to Robin being one of the police officers assigned to the murder investigation and Adam being one of the potential suspects in the investigation.

I enjoyed the mystery aspect of the story & found myself being stumped as to the identity of the killer right up until close to the reveal.

I do look forward to continuing with the second book to finish the duology.

4.5 stars. A clever whodunit, a cautious romance; so very, very British. All that was missing were crumpets and jam.

The characters seemed interchangeable and flat, told not shown. Same with the romantic arc. Why would these two be interested in each other other than being the only single gay men in the story?

Adam is just a teacher who is involved in the selection procedure for a new headteacher. Well, what a shame that one of the candidates ends up dead. And later even more people? Fortunately inspector Robin Bright shows up to solve the case, although endearing Adam keeps him from focussing on the crime at hand. Oops, another murder. Together they can work the case and find a way to be open about their relationship. Or not?? Just go ahead and read it!!

I adored this book. I love British mystery and detective shows and this reminded me of those. Just perfect. I hope we may see these two main characters again.
