What Members Thought
This second book featuring Elliot, the former FBI agent turned professor, and Tucker his former FBI partner who is still with the Bureau. The main action centres on Elliot's father, also a professor, but more importantly a former rebel against the system who is now writing his memoirs. As he moves towards publication he falls victim to a number of attempts on his life, including the burning down of the family home. The mystery action centres around who is out to stop the book being published, wh

One thing I don't like about many Josh Lanyon books is the abrupt ending. So when the first book, Fair Game ended, I felt cheated, that's it? After all these men have been through, the end!?
Fair Play is a reasonable conclusion. Tucker and Elliot's relationship is still evolving and is satisfactorily tested and cemented. Yes, there are tropes here, misunderstandings, noncommunicativeness, crossed signals. The murder mystery--eh, not really what I read Josh Lanyon for, at least Seattle/Washington ...more

I love how Josh Lanyon tells a story. I love how he creates a character. Elliot and Tucker's relationship blossoms in this novel as they navigate the changing dynamic of dealing with family, work, and crime solving as partners.
Elliot's father's house is burnt down. Someone doesn't want him to publish his memoirs. Elliot has to find out what happened in the past to figure out what is happening now, but no one really wants him to do that.

I did not like this one as much as the first. It dragged for me in parts as the mystery story line got more complicated and convoluted. However, I did like how this book built on the story/relationship from book one. That part is very well done and the writing continues to be very good. Given that there is unresolved (though subtle) thread carried over from book one -- mentioned in the middle and then again towards the end of this book -- makes me suspect that we are not quite done with the "All

I really liked Elliot and Tucker (especially Tucker) in this book.
I wasn't as engaged in the mystery, didn't really care about Roland and his buddies.
On to book three, hope there's more about Tucker and his relatives! ...more

*sigh* I really love Elliot & Tucker. Can't wait for book 3.
ETA March 21, 2017: For the re-read I listened to the audio version but am reviewing the ebook because I need the page count for a challenge.
I didn't feel like the storyline for this was as strong as Fair Game for the mystery portion. However, I really enjoyed seeing Tucker & Elliot's relationship progress.
I also enjoyed the narration better with switch to J.F. Harding. ...more
