I loved Fair Game which was released four years ago. I thought it was engaging with familiar type of story coming from Josh Lanyon. Truthfully, I didn't think the story NEEDED a sequel. Having said that, since I proclaimed myself a Lanyon fan, when I saw there was a new story about Tucker and Elliott, I had to read it. Unfortunately, in my humble opinion, the sequel didn't live up to my expectation -- even if I already set it low considering I didn't see the sequel as necessary in the f ...more

Josh Lanyon's writing is always solid, especially with relationship building and I loved the emerging dynamics in Elliot and Tucker's relationship. They are a strong couple that have a lot to balance and I like that they communicate for the most part. I also liked seeing more of Elliot's relationship with Roland. The mystery started off strong, but lost me a little bit with the number of Roland's friends that were involved. I did, however, like getting a little more about Tucker's past ...more

This was really good! It was great to be back with Elliott and Tucker and the mystery with Elliott's father was really compelling. I liked that that everything wasn't all hearts and flowers with the guys - six months into their new relationship it seems like that's when problems would start cropping up naturally -- especially for two guys who never had a serious relationship before. I listened to the audio and J. F. Harding was fantastic. He did an excellent job with all the character voices, ma

Great sequel. The mystery kept me guessing until the end as to what went on. I did want to strangle Roland a few times, but I have little patience with idealists who don't have a firm grasp of reality.

Fair Game had been one of my earliest forays — and one of my favorites — into MM genre and likewise Elliot and Tucker as the MCs. That saying, it boggled me that I didn’t feel the same excitement reading this book. Sure, the story being set up in their only six months together might be the cause of the issues yet to be settled between them. But I felt that overall the flow of the story was stilted, it started rather flat even with such burning (pun intended) page openers.

I listened to the audio version of this and it was great. It's been years since I read the first book, Fair Game, but it was easy to get back into the story. The mystery itself was good and I liked the side-focus on Elliott's relationship with his dad (and how that paralleled with Tucker's upbringing.)
As an aside, I've had a really tough time sinking into a good book since the election in November. This was one of few books that I've been able to finish and enjoyed. Lanyon's writing is solid and ...more

I had to reread this book in order to form an opinion, but now that I'm done, I consider it as great as the first book of the series ("Fair Game") - and "Fair Game" is probably, together with "Death of a Pirate King", my favourite Josh Lanyon book. Thank you, Josh!
