Oh, Josh Lanyon, how I miss thee.

Sure, in 2013, Lanyon released a few shorts and a novella (Kick Start from the Dangerous Ground Series, which I didn’t like) but it has been awhile since Lanyon released a full-length novel. So I was excited when I saw this being listed for publication.

Did I love it? I most certainly did!

What made this a winner for me was the “Josh Lanyon” formula. When Griff first came to the estate, Pierce (the family lawyer) didn’t exactly welcome him with open arms; Pierce ke

Re-read: 11/4/18:
4.5 stars still.
I read this when it first came out and loved it. It was one of my first Josh Lanyon books and I've been wanting to re-read it. It totally lived up to my memories. So moody and atmospheric. Creepy and gothic. The mystery and suspense aspect was superb, I loved the cast of characters. The romance was the weakest part of the story. It was just a little too rushed but I still enjoyed the enemies to lovers romance. I'd just like an epilogue or something with Griffin

3.5 stars

While part of the mystery is solved for the reader about 1/3 of the way in, there is still plenty of who did what to whom going on in this book, surrounding a mostly unlikeable, very wealthy family on the North Shore of Long Island. The story kept me reading, but I still had some small questions in the end and just a bit of dissatisfaction with some of the wrapup.

The romance really did not work for me at all and I think part of it had to do with not having Pierce's POV. I didn't feel a

I just finished this and am kind of overwhelmed by how happy it makes me to read another of Josh's books, one that is such a good fit to my taste in mysteries, in writing, in romance. It's like this amazing gift to his readers. Yes, I figured out (along with many readers I'm sure) a major plot point, but not the how and why of it. And that made it so worth the journey. ...more

Mr. Lanyon delivers again! Why am I not surprised? :)

Note: I received this eARC from Carina Press via NetGalley. That had no influence on my review/rating.

I'm just not in the mood for reading lately, so I thought I'd go for a Josh Lanyon offering, as they always pick me up. However, I'm in a worse place than I thought because although this story is entertaining, I didn't find it my usual comfort blanket. Maybe it was because I figured out most of what was going on too early in the book? That Pierce was too good looking, controlling and too into Griff from the outset for someone with 'trust issues' for my taste? That said, I liked both Pierce and G ...more
