Although it is somewhat dated by being written in the 80's, this is still a compelling read. The MC is a disillusioned public defender who wants more but doesn't know more of what. He is openly gay, He meets Hugh in jail. He meets Hugh out of jail.

The premise of the book centers around Henry's involvement with Hugh. I did not feel the love there, but definitely felt the attraction. It may have been for Hugh. It may have been for Henry's lost values. It may have been that Hugh reminded Henry of

Shelves: mystery, m-m, historical
I thought the book had a good mystery and interesting characters. I really liked that Henry kept going on despite all the obstacles, both because he wanted to do the right thing and because he wanted justice for his friend. I look forward to reading more about Henry in the following books of this series.
