Thought the theme was very contemporary and definitely kept me engaged. The main character, Evan, was extremely likable and believable.
There seems to be room for a sequel here!

Very nice. Garth knows how to take one theme (not too many sub plots) and really explore it. Enjoyed this.

Evan Wallace is a talented guitarist, who may have already had his 15 minutes of fame. Now he's treading water; working a menial job, practicing with his current band, and sliding by. Stein has a talent for creating unique and interesting characters and engaging conflict. The interplay between the protagonist and his son, as well as his own father, is very believable and the conflict keeps you reading. On the off side, there was a lot more profanity than I would prefer, but it was believable in light of the lifestyle of the main character. Not quite the equal to Racing in the Rain, but Stein is a very talented writer.

This book confirms that I am a Garth Stein fan. The author of The Art of Racing in the Rain has written another winner! A great read with a flawed, yet likable protagonist (Evan) who struggles with a physical problem that has taken its toll over the years. Recommended for fans of Rock & Roll who enjoy some laughs along with some tears!
