This book was fantastic. The chapters alternated between earth and the crew of Galahad, giving the reader an idea of the struggles on both sides- those destined to embark on a mission that will save mankind, and everyone else back on earth who are left to die in the poisoned atmosphere. The characters each have their own unique story, all of which you learn more about as the series continues. My favorite character is definitely Roc- a sarcastic artificial intellegence who acts as a greek chorus
