★★★★★ I have a friend who received an ARE of the amazing Ms. Kleypas’ second in the Friday Harbor series, and was kind enough to lend it to me. I loved it! Gobbled it down in hours, to the detriment of my sleep. It has some sad parts, though. Ms. Kleypas can make you feel her protagonists’ ache of love – whether it is the beginning, the end, or the disillusionment in between.

Ms. Kleypas is branching into “magical realism” – and I love it. It doesn't overwhelm the book, but makes a few appearances at critical times. And it all takes place in the lovely, enchanting setting of Friday Harbor, Washington. Can't wait for the next in the series!

I recently did a “buddy read” of this book; as it was my second “reading” of it, I decided to listen to the audiobook, and I’m glad I did. It is well narrated by Tanya Eby (though she does **gasp** lisp the author’s name!). Still, I thought she elevated Lucy, the heroine, from what Megan, in her insightful review, wonderfully described it as having a “palpable sorrow, and quiet dignity.” In the audio, Ms. Eby made Lucy sound lighter and brighter, especially in the second half of the book, than I felt about her my first read-through.

3.5 stars. This is definitely not as good or compelling as Kleypas's other series such as the Wallflowers, the Hathaways, or the Travises. However, it still has that pull and well written format that defines Lisa Kleypas's books. I was disappointed with the first in the Friday Harbor series, disappointed in that it was not a typical Lisa Kleypas book. Friday Harbor is a magical place. And I mean that in two kinds of magic. There are minor magic elements to the story and it was written by the wonderful Lisa Kleypas. She has that touch that draws you into the story until you feel as if you live there and then you are depressed to finish because you don't want to have to leave. I wanted to stay buried within the pages of this book!

Lucy had a difficult life growing up. Her younger sister always got what she wanted, even if that meant to her siste Friday Harbor is a magical place. And I mean that in two kinds of magic. She has that touch that draws you into the story until you feel as if you live there and then you are depressed to finish because you don't want to have to leave. I wanted to stay buried within the pages of this book!

Lucy had a difficult life growing up. Her younger sister always got what she wanted, even if that meant to her sisters' expense. And I'll confess just a few chapters in I wanted to beat Alice to a pulp. But she persevered through this and became a successful woman, doing what she loved (glass work) and being strong and independent. Until she is faced with yet another obstacle thanks to her sister.

This is when she meets Sam Nolan, the middle Nolan brother, who has sworn off marriage or any kind of meaningful relationship. She knows this is not the guy she should be with. She's not that girl. But Sam's appeal is more than her rational thoughts of what she should and shouldn't do. He slowly earns her trust and manages to become a shoulder for her to lean on through a difficult time. Sam himself doesn't know how to feel about Lucy. He should stay away, he's trouble for her, she's trouble for him. But he can't.

The story has all the charm of a small town love story! Lucy and Sam are perfect together. The support of family and friends also plays a part in this story as we meet some of Lucy's friends. We get to see a small glimpse of Maggie, Mark and Holly which I loved. Sam's relationship with Holly is precious. And then there's Alex. He has gone on a downward spiral since his divorce and it's not getting better. I can't wait to read his book, especially because now we got a glimpse as to who he will end up with and I have to say I love her character. She's just what he needs!

This is another truly amazing, can't-miss, must-read series by Ms. Kleypas! If you didn't start it yet, then do it now! It will leave you with a feeling of happiness when you read that last page, as all of Lisa Kleypas' books do. Well, that or you will just be a bit upset and desperate to get to the next one like me. ...more

Lucy and Kevin have been together for 2 years. Unbeknownst to her, he's cheating on her. With her sister Alice. Alice has Issues. She was sick when she was a kid and has been treated with kid gloves ever since. Lucy gets introduced to Sam.

This is the second book in the Friday Harbor Series, a contemporary romance series with a touch of whimsy from Lisa Kleypas. Rainshadow Road is Sam’s story and so far I think my favorite of the series. Sam is such a wonderfully caring geek; not at all what I envisioned about him from the other two books that I had read. The romance between Sam and Lucy was magical and special and I really enjoyed this one.

This is my first Lisa Kleypas, and I'm not sure I'd rush to read another. Glad I got this one from the library, just to test her out, so to speak.

The story was OK but nothing gripping, in fact in some parts it was downright depressing. There is enough of that in the news, I don't need to read about it as well. Don't get me wrong, I don't expect Mary Sunshine in every book I read. But at least some redeeming features need to be there. ...more

I I just loved this book! It was such a quick delightful read. I had read Friday Harbor and loved it but it really didn't seem like I needed to have read that to get into this one. The same characters were there but the focus was on secondary character from the original book so it was very much a stand alone book! Highly recommend it! ...more
