Hot Blooded had all the things I didn't like about the first book: the info dumps, the super convoluted world building, the page long-monologues by almost every character and the boasting. OH THE BOASTING! The final confrontation between the main character and the evil villain was as follows:

THIS WENT ON FOR 5 CHAPTERS. At the end, I wanted to kill them both. What semi-intelligent being decides to have boastful conversations while in a fight to the death?

Hot Blooded is the second installment in the Jessica McClain series and basically picks right up where Full Blooded ended. Jessica and team are on a mission to find Jessica’s mate Roarke who was were-napped by the evil goddess Celina in book 1.

Although this had a cliffhanger ending, it seemed less of a cliffhanger than book 1--the arc was finished and we're off (immediately) to a new one. And there lies a problem that I have. It reads like the next book is taking off with an immediate and new set of problems to solve. Essentially, almost no time has passed between book 1 and the 3rd book in the series.

I am really enjoying this series, it's one of those surprising finds. It has a little of everything and doesn't often go the way you think it will. Can't wait to read the next one although I'm hoping not to find a killer ending! I hate cliffhangers with a passion, lol. Especially when the next one isn't available!
